Topic: Addressing Issues of Sexuality in Couples Therapy: Emotionally Focused Therapy Meets Sex Therapy
In the initiatory phases of a relationship factors such as attraction and sex can enhance people’s attachment to one another but in the long run, there are three behavioral systems of attachment, sex and care that overlap and cover for each other. Research suggests that loveless sex with multiple partners shows a sharp decline in pleasure but when there is a long term loving and committed relationship, pleasure can increase.
Healthy couples work as a team when it comes to sex. They support each other and co-create a secure base when facing life’s stresses.
